Installation only of:-

  • 230 pairs of AZ25 steel sheet piles between 14m and 16.5m in length for an anchor wall.
  • 260 pairs of AZ26 steel sheet piles at 14m in length for the outer quay wall.

Since May 2008 we have been working on behalf or Farrans (Construction) Ltd, who are in turn contracted by Glasgow Harbour, on the refurbishment and replacement of the River Kelvin quay wall in central Glasgow.

The overall aim of the project is to replace the existing timber quay wall with steel sheet piling both to stabilise the existing riverbank and facilitate the construction of a retail, office and residential development on the site in the future. We intend to complete our portion of the works using a combination of conventional and leader rig techniques.

A total of two parallel retaining walls are scheduled to be installed, the first of which, the outer quay wall, was installed using conventional methods. Once the gates and trestles had been erected 230 pairs of AZ25 steel sheet piles at 14m in length were driven into the riverbed.

The second wall, the anchor wall, consists of 230 pairs of AZ26 steel sheet piles varying from 14m to 16.5m in length. The piles will be driven into the existing riverbank using our ABI 12/14.5 "Zeppelin" Leader Rig. Tie rods connecting the two walls will be fitted by Farrans (Construction) Ltd at a later date. At our current pace we are scheduled to finish in July of this year.
