- 107 PU28-1 Steel Sheet Piles varying from 10m to 12m in length forming the first temporary retaining wall (canal protection).
- 134 L604 Steel Sheet Piles at 10m in length for the four sided cofferdam.
- 156 L605 Steel Sheet Piles at 10m in length for the circular cofferdam.
- 98 PU28-1 Steel Sheet Piles at 11m in length to form the second temporary retaining wall (further canal protection).
In July 2007 SPI commenced work on behalf of KMI Plus, who are in turn contracted by United Utilities, on the Ashton-under-Lyne Waste Water Treatment Works Project. The overall aim of the project is to upgrade and expand the existing sewage works to increase its operational capacity, this includes the construction of two new pumping stations at the site.

The contract was divided into two phases. Phase one included the installation of the first temporary retaining wall to protect the existing Peak Forest Canal adjacent to the site from collapse during the project. A temporary circular cofferdam to facilitate the construction of an ASP Feed Pumping Station and a four sided cofferdam, with framing, to aid the construction of a second Pumping Station were also built.
The second phase consisted of the installation of a second temporary retaining wall on a separate section of the Peak Forest Canal, again, to protect the canal from collapse.
The ground conditions on site have been a challenge, each pile position had to be pre-augered due to firm to stiff clays in the lower levels of the intended piling area. All installation was completed in July 2008 after five individual visits.
We are now moving into the extraction phase of the project, so far all of the phase one temporary works have been removed using an 80 Tonne Crawler Crane with our 24VM Vibro mounted from it.
